Your Nutrition Questions Answered

WILL MY HEALTH INSURANCE COVER DIETITIAN SERVICES?
Most likely, YES. Please double check with your health insurance provider.
We will provide you with an insurance receipt following your nutrition assessment to submit to your provider for reimbursement.
WHAT IS YOUR TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE?
This is such an important question to ask, and I love when my clients seek this kind of clarity! I completed my Bachelor of Nutrition Sciences at St. Francis Xavier University in Canada. Following that, I completed a one-year integrative internship with the University Health Network, gaining experience across various hospital and community settings in the Greater Toronto Area.

My professional foundation is rooted in cardiology, which is why my work focuses so strongly on longevity and the prevention of chronic disease. I support clients in managing key risk factors such as high cholesterol, pre-diabetes, and high blood pressure. I began my career in stroke rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation, and the cardiac intensive care unit. My passion for heart health deepened through my time at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Toronto General Hospital, and Toronto Rehab.

At Toronto General Hospital, I also worked in Internal Medicine, Multi-Organ Transplant, and Oncology, which shaped my experience with clients facing a range of complex health conditions. This gave me a strong foundation in gastrointestinal health and function, as well as the management of liver and kidney diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and chronic kidney disease.

After becoming a parent, I transitioned my practice to a virtual setting to support better work-life balance. I love connecting with my clients virtually and understand firsthand the challenges that come with raising young children while trying to maintain healthy habits. I’ve been through it too—I see you! I'm here to meet you where you are and help you find realistic, creative ways to achieve your health goals.
WHAT IS A DIETITIAN/NUTRITIONIST?
In Canada, Registered Dietitians (RDs) are regulated healthcare professionals with a bachelor's or masters degree in nutrition or dietetics, followed by a comprehensive, 12-month internship in healthcare and community settings. After this, they must pass the national dietetic registration exam to gain licensure through a provincial regulatory body. RDs are also required to engage in ongoing professional development to stay up-to-date with the latest nutrition and healthcare practices.

In Canada, a Registered Dietitian (RD) is a regulated healthcare professional with specific qualifications, while a nutritionist is not regulated and can vary in qualifications and expertise. RDs have standardized education and training requirements while nutritionists lack such regulation. RDs are allowed to use the term Nutritionist if they wish, while Nutritionist's (who lack the criteria noted above) are not allowed to legally use the "RD/Dietitian" title.
